HDTV sources
The rise in popularity of large screens and projectors has made the limitations of conventional Standard Definition TV (SDTV) increasingly evident. An HDTV compatible television set will not improve the quality of SDTV channels. To display a superior picture, high definition televisions require a High Definition (HD) signal. Typical sources of HD signals are as follows:
*Over the air with an antenna. Most cities in the US with major network affiliates broadcast over the air in HD. To receive this signal an HD tuner is required. Most newer high definition televisions have an HD tuner built in. For HDTV televisions without a built in HD tuner, a separate set-top HD tuner box can be rented from a cable or satellite company or purchased.
*Cable television companies often offer HDTV broadcasts as part of their digital broadcast service. This is usually done with a set-top box or CableCARD issued by the cable company. Alternatively one can usually get the network HDTV channels for free with basic cable by using a QAM tuner built into their HDTV or set-top box. Some cable carriers also offer HDTV on-demand playback of movies and commonly viewed shows.
*Satellite-based TV companies, such as DirecTV and Dish Network (both in North America), Premiere (in Germany), TeleDunya (in Turkey), Sky Digital and freesat (in the UK and Ireland), Bell TV and Shaw Direct (both in Canada), Canal Digitaal (in the Netherlands), Canal Digital and Viasat (both in Norway, Sweden and Denmark), Cyfra+, Cyfrowy Polsat and n (in Poland), SKY (in New Zealand), NTV Plus (in Russia), Sky Italia in Italy and Digit-Alb (in Albania), offer HDTV to customers as an upgrade. New satellite receiver boxes are usually required to receive HD content.
*Video game systems, such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and digital set-top boxes such as the Apple TV, and the Netgear Digital Entertainer, can output an HD signal. The Xbox Live Marketplace, iTunes Music Store, and PlayStation Network services offer HD movies, TV shows, movie trailers, and clips for download, but generally at lower bitrates than a Blu-ray Disc.
*Most newer computer graphics cards have either HDMI or DVI interfaces, which can be used to output images or video to an HDTV.
* Almost all computer graphics cards have standard SVGA jacks which can be used to output images or video to an HDTV's "PC Input" jack.
*The optical disc standard Blu-ray Disc (25GB-50GB) can provide enough digital storage to store up to 10 hours of HD video content, depending on encoder settings.
*Another optical disc standard HD-DVD (15GB-30GB) can also hold several hours of HD content, depending on encoder settings.

* Any TV shipped after March 1, 2007 must include a digital receiver
* There may be some new televisions shipped before March 1 that don't include a digital receiver. In that case, the box must have a sticker explicitly saying so
* TVs without digital tuners aren't necessarily "old." For instance, some HDTV models from 2006 are "digital ready"—they'll display digital signals, but only when connected to digital cable or a digital receiver. For these, you may see phrases like "digital monitor" or "HDTV monitor" on the box

This LCD really is great!
I know a lot of you are looking at a lot of hdtvs. Let me tell I looked at all the t.vs in best buy to see how they look. I saw the ln46b650 as it stood out from the rest with clarity. So i decided to take a gamble and pre order this one. I even owned a pn50a760 plasma and sent it back because it had poor clearity. This t.v has an extra setting for the upscaling which makes it ajust to the size making it a little clearer for normal dvds then the regular upscaling.
PROs for this t.v: Clearest picture i've seen so far for LCD. No artifacts on 240hz settings. The colors are bright and stunning. For you video game addicts. I have a ps3 and a xbox360 hooked up to it and let me tell you the game looks crisp and has no lag whats so ever.
Cons:The internet capabilities and media stuff arent exciting. Only thing its good for is maybe knowing the weather and uploading pictures on the tv when having family events. When people speak while playing video games they seem a little quiet other then that they sound pretty decent. The blacks are probally the best you can get for lcd but its still not as black as plasmas can get. Only other thing is its viewing angles, its best to sit at a centerish seat.
THe cons are very very minor overall this t.v I will recommend to anyone looking for something great in all area's for the price. Regular Dvds look nice a sharp and blue rays look even better. Even my girlfriend that knows nothing about t.vs says WOW thats a lot better then the other one we sent back. YOu could also see the jealousy in my friends eyes.
I hope my technical comments help you decide if this is the t.v for you.

Worth Every Penny
I've been researching TV's for the past couple of months now. I own a samsung 26 inch hd tv thats 1080i that I got two years ago and wanted to get an upgrade. After reading numerous reviews I decided to go with an Led backlit TV over a plasma since I play a lot of video games and was worried about the burn in. I like the previous reviewer read the cnet review and was a little worried about the off-angle viewing and the variable backlighting with this most recent model of tvs.
I've had this tv for about a week now and absolutely love it. The TV itself looks amazing. The stand is both sturdy and stunning. The picture quality is absolutely breathtaking. I have little to no problem with the glare. The viewing angle is extremely wide I have yet to encounter a problem and the lighting is very uniform. This tv produces the most true blacks I've seen on any TV. Images really pop out on this set. I can definitely tell the difference between this tv set and my old one.
Another great feature is all the additional content the TV has. It has recipes with step by step pictures, teaches you how to stretch massage etc. I can't say enough about this tv. I highly recommend this tv especially if you own a PS3 and or blu-ray player.

great deal for a LCD-DVD combo4 *****
I bought the Sansui 32-inch dvd combo because it seemed to have the best specs and price among the limited choices on Amazon. So far I'm quite pleased--the picture quality is great, the integration of the DVD player is adequate if a little clunky. My only complaint is that the TV doesn't seem to maintain the default display type that I prefer--"natural", which presumably will display the picture without stretching or distorting it. Perhaps this is the same with other flat screens, but this is my first. I just have to reset it every time. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced all-in-one.

This tv is great! I have been researching tvs for over a year to find the right one. I read all of the professional reviews (cnet) and this is the tv that I decided on. I was on a budget, I am a college student who does a lot of gaming and blu-ray watching. I am extremely picky about picture quality and this tv delivers an amazing picture! This blows nearly all LCD tv's out of the water. I was not going to get a plasma to begin with because of the supposed "image retention" which I have yet to notice. I am extremely glad that I got a Panasonic Plasma. The blacks are so deep, it almost looks as though the tv is off when the screen is black. The deep blacks make the colors pop! I have watched a number of blu-rays and played a couple of hours of games and I am in love already. I highly recommend this tv to everyone. It is an extremely good deal. Any LCD for this size would be much more expensive and have a much lower picture quality. Also for those of you deciding between the G10 and this tv I would recommend this one. I went to the local Best Buy and compared the two next to each other and I could not notice any difference between the two. Save yourself some money. First we bought the 42 inch vizio LCD (XVT) because of the 1080p and 120hz refresh, and it was on sale at Costco, but we found it to be annoyingly grainy, even while watching discs on our high-end Bluray machine (Sony BDP-BX1). After much deliberation and research online, we decided for the money we should be thrilled about the purchase, and so returned the Vizio to Costco (they took it, no questions asked, even without the box) and bought this Samsung plasma from Bestbuy for $100 less. The result... this is what we were looking for. We watch movies in the dark and this TV is perfect for it. No grain, crisp and beautiful. Is 1080p really that important? Or is this just more size-matters syndrome? Who knows - but this 720p plasma looks worlds better than the 1080p LCD, for less money. Go with this one!
